Finance and Accounts

Finance and Accounts Department renders support services to other Departments/Units through processing of authorized receipts of revenue and approved payments for goods and services consumed. It is headed by a Director (Accounts) posted from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. The Department is structured into four (4) Divisions namely; Revenue & External Assistance, Expenditure, Budget, and Financial & Fiscal Reporting.

Functions


  • ~Advising the Accounting Officer on all financial matters as well as the technical provisions of Financial Regulations, other Treasury and Finance Circulars.
  • ~Managing funds in a manner that assures smooth operations of the Ministry.
  • ~Ensuring adequate control and management of the Property, Plant, and Equipment Register and reconciling the schedule thereto to the General ledger on monthly basis.
  • ~Ensuring the preparation and updating of the information needed for Medium-term Revenue Framework (MTRF), Medium-term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), and Medium-term Sector Strategy (MTSS).
  • ~Compiling and defending the in-house budget proposals.
  • ~Monthly preparation and submission of Trial Balance and other Financial Statements in line with IPSAS to OAGF.
  • ~Ensuring that all revenue accruable to the Ministry are promptly received and accounted for.
  • ~Collates the Recurrent and Capital Expenditure of the ministry.
  • ~Ensures a prompt response to Audit Query.
  • ~Prepares Annual Reports together with GPFS of the Ministry and ensures timely rendition of other statutory reports.
  • ~Ensures accountability, probity, transparency, and efficiency in the management of government resources.
  • ~Any other responsibility/duty as may be assigned by the Accounting Officer.
